William Rodney Shannon, 85, died at Gentiva Hospice in Columbus, Georgia, on June 7, 2014. He was born in Muscogee County Georgia on February 9, 1929, to Samuel Clifton Shannon and Martha Bell Shannon.

He is preceded in death by both of his parents, his wife, Katie Blankenship Shannon, and one son, Clifton (Cliff) Rodney Shannon.
Survivors include two sons, Glenn Allen Shannon and his wife, Debbie of Preston, GA; and Samuel Christopher Shannon and his wife, Elizabeth (Bebe) of Preston, Ga; six grandchildren, Chad Norton (Kimberly) of Preston, GA, Brandon Norton of Newnan, GA; Becky Storey (Allen) of Preston, GA; Katha Scott (Michael) of Richland, GA; Patrick Shannon of Montezuma, Ga; Chase Shannon of Preston, GA; and eight great- grandchildren, Beau Norton, Tyler Norton, Isabella Norton, Sydney Scott, Houston Scott, Nicholas Storey, Jordan Sanders, Jake Sanders; and one brother, Wayne Shannon (Eleanor) of Preston, GA.

A Graveside Service was held on Monday June 9, 2014, at 11:00 AM, Preston City Cemetery in Preston, GA. The Reverend Raymond Smith officiated the service and burial.

Pallbearers were his grandsons and grandsons-in-law: Brandon Norton, Chad Norton, Patrick Shannon, Chase Shannon, Allen Storey, Michael Scott
