Obituary

William Clay Nelson, 76, passed away at his home with his family with him.  He was born August 12, 1943 in Stewart County Georgia, to the late Andrew Frank Nelson and Mattie Mae Rodgers Nelson.

William grew up in Stewart County and spent his life in Stewart County.  He was a man who always provided for his family.  He started working at an early age and worked until he was physically unable to work.  He had worked for the railroad, Eakes Ford Tractor and H L Moore Company.  When he worked for Moore Company, he knew where every item was stocked.  He could always find the items his customers needed.  If the other items were not in stock, he would place orders or ask the person what they needed the part for and many times he was able to come up with an alternate item to fix the project.  He was always kind and willing to help.

William and Teresa Hunter were married in 1963 and she was the love of his life.  When Teresa came home with a new basket, dish or bear, he would just shake his head.  He learned over the years to read her mood and duck if he saw a pot of rice coming his way!  William loved his family.  When talking about his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he always had a smile on his face.  He was very proud of both Andy and Sandra and all that they have accomplished.

Fishing, ballgames, gathering with family and friends were things William treasured.  He had "his breakfast group" that he enjoyed each morning.  It was a time for good friends and good food.  William also enjoyed his quiet time.  This was times when he would work in his shop.  After William and Teresa bought their new home and land, William built his dream shop.  He would spend hours in the shop working on projects.  Each item had its place and he would know when something was moved. Teresa would make sure that he did not skip meals by taking him things to eat and drink while he was working.

When Teresa worked our elections, he would come to Lumpkin and be there at the end of the night to make sure she left and made it safely home.  Health issues forced William's retirement so now he would find something to fix or someone to help.  He was an honorable man and a great friend to many people.  There are so many great memories of William and his life.

William is preceded in death by both of his parents and his brother, Allen Nelson.

Survivors include his wife, Teresa Hunter Nelson of Richland, Georgia, his son, Andy (Dorline) Nelson of Edgewater, Florida, his daughter, Sandra (Steve) Hubbard of Richland, Georgia; four grandchildren, Kara Hubbard, Stetson (Hayleigh) Burks, Lauren (Charlie) Beaver, Clay Nelson; three great-grandchildren, Rhett Burks, Emerson and Adley Beaver; two sisters, Marilyn (Danny) Wingard of Americus, Georgia, Carolyn (Bob) Reeves of Americus, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.
