Etheredge
February 18, 1946 – December 1, 2023
William Michael Etheredge, Major US Army, age 77, passed away. Mr. Etheredge was a long-time resident of Parrott Georgia. He was born on 18 February 1946 in Chickamauga, GA, the son of George Walter and Mamie Potts Etheredge. He is survived by his wife, Susie Harrell Etheredge, a son, George Etheredge, his wife Christy, a daughter, Jennifer Etheredge and her husband, Chris Tsigalas, a granddaughter, Leanna Mae Etheredge and a sister, Mary Carolyn Jung and her husband, Hans Jung.
Mr. Etheredge was a graduate of Marianna High School 1964, Chipola Jr. College 1966, University of Florida 1969, University of Southern California 1972, and University of Georgia 1981. He was commissioned a 2d Lieutenant in the US Army in 1969. He attended the Infantry Officer's Basic Course at Ft. Benning and the Aerial Surveillance Officer's Course at Ft. Holabird before going to Viet Nam. He served in Vietnam with the Americal Division and flew aerial missions with the 21st RAC Black Aces and 13st Aviation Night Hawks Aviation Companies.
He received a Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster and Air Medal for service in Viet Nam. He received an Army Commendation Medal for service in Germany. He was assigned to US Army FORSCOM DCSI and FORSCOM Directorate for Intelligence in Atlanta GA as a reserve officer. While there, he worked for General Colin C. Powell as a General Staff Action Officer.
Mr. Etheredge also worked as a rehabilitation counselor, rehabilitation unit supervisor, information technology coordinator, and information systems unit chief for Georgia Department of Human Resources. Upon retirement from the state in 2001, he served as technology consultant for the Division of Public Health providing technical consultation for the roll out of the GRITS statewide immunization registry.
His favorite hobbies were building craftsman style furniture, helping his children in remolding houses, reading, deer hunting, driving down country roads, bicycling, and walking.
Mr. Etheredge was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church, Louvale, GA.
A private family Chapel Service was held in Mike's honor.
Major Etheredge was buried at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery in Alabama with full military honors.
