Sybil Christine
Mcglaun Fussell
October 24, 1935 – November 13, 2024
Sybil Christine McGlaun Fussell, 89, passed away on November 13, 2024, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Home in Americus, Georgia. Sybil was born on October 24, 1935, in Ellerslie, Georgia, to the late Prather McGlaun and Mary Julia Waller McGlaun.
Sybil is survived by her three daughters, Kay (Elmer) Faust of Roberta, Georgia, Philda (Jackie) Hunter of Georgetown, Georgia and Benee (Richard) Morris of Dawson, Georgia; one son, Stan (Milinda) Fussell of Preston, Georgia; a granddaughter, Amy Hardage and grandsons, Allen Faust, Clint, Brett and Chad Hunter, Jeremy Morris and Eric, Brad and Ryan Fussell, numerous great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and one sister, Faye McGlaun Wiseman.
Sybil was a true people person, she loved visiting and being with part of the "group". No one was ever a stranger to her, they become a friend. With her love of reading and going to the library, she served on the Board of the Webster County Library. She served as a Past President of the Preston Woman's Club. She was so inspired with learning and wanted everyone to get an education, that at the age of 59 she earned her GED.
Sybil married Benjamin Fussell in February of 1952 and they were married for 59 years at the time of his death. They were a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church. After the children were grown, they traveled many years to Cottonhill camping in the camper that Ben had built. She would read while he fished, taking in the outdoors in the evenings.
Sybil enjoyed collecting different types of jewelry, loved yellow roses and going to yard sales! She enjoyed traveling, and always had a bag packed, ready to go. When the children were young Sybil enjoyed cooking, especially baking her chocolate cake and blackberry cobbler pie. She loved her family, friends and loved to be with all generations of her grandchildren. Being able to see four great-great grandchildren was very heartwarming for her.
Sybil worked many years off and on for AlMark Mill where she was the Supervisor of the Label Design Department. She loved when she worked at Belk's Department store with the employee discount and all the perks!
