Shirley Eady
Lane
December 29, 1936 – January 30, 2022
Shirley Eady Lane joyfully entered her eternal rest with her children, Robb and Nancy, by her side on January 30th. Shirley was the beloved oldest daughter of Henry H & Ellyne Eady. Her parents and 2 brothers, Allen & Buddy preceded her in death. Until her death, her two sisters, Marion and Ellen "Sissy" have been her lifelong best friends. Shirley was born and grew up in Brooksville, and moved to Lumpkin when she was in high school, where she met and married the love of her life, Lynn E. Lane.
Shirley's joy her entire life was spent serving her family and community. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend. She loved Jesus and spent decades as a circuit piano player serving any denominations that needed help, but she especially loved the church where she & Lynn served the longest, Shady Grove Baptist.
Shirley loved to cook and was always near the kitchen. She spent the last 50 years cooking on her and Lynn's farm for visitors and loved ones and enjoyed every second of it. In her house, everyone was welcomed and accepted. She also loved teaching anyone willing how to make teacakes, pound cakes, fried cornbread, or her famous fried chicken. She found immense joy in serving her children, grandchildren, and her fellow neighbors surrounding Stewart County. Even towards the end of her life one still found Shirley taking meals or flowers to her neighbors.
Like her mother and grandmother, she was an exceptional seamstress. She loved making her daughter and grandchildren heirloom clothes, found joy in quilting, and enjoyed the fellowship of the Omaha Civic club. The hours spent with those women establishing deep friendships over the years was one of her life's highlights.
Shirley excelled in gardening and grew some of the prettiest roses and camellias. Her family joked that she had 2 green hands and not just a green thumb. She loved growing her vegetable gardens, and for years grew a pea patch for the community to share. She and Lynn shared a deep love of the land and the fruits of their labors. She loved using the resources of her yard- especially at Christmas! For years she helped the decorating committee at Westville with all-natural decorations. She also assisted in the yearly Yule log festivities with anticipation.
She loved painting and enjoyed sharing her skills with friends and family, many are still painting today because of her encouragement.
Shirley Lane was an encourager. She was a get-things-done kind of woman. She did not enjoy wasting time but wanted to find a job and complete it. She was kind. She was generous. She loved Jesus and she loved helping people find His love. She loved making things beautiful! She proved this with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren over the decades. But more than anything, Shirley was a servant. She served her husband and the needs of their farm with her whole heart. She served her children in all areas. She served hers and Lynn's parents with wild abandonment up until each of their deaths. She laid down her life as the example Jesus set forth for each of us. She served many in her extended family and this community with meals, rides to the doctor, or any other areas, even up until her death.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lynn. She will be dearly missed by her family; Robb (Terry) Lane, Katie (Jeremy) Hopper and 3 children, Mac (Hallie) Lane: Nancy (Jim) Hester, Jim Jr, Daniel (Hampton), Mary Kathryn, David (Mahan) and their 2 children, and Benjamin Hester. As well as her nieces, Wanda Clancey and Linda Adcock, who were more like daughters to her. She will be dearly missed by many other nieces, nephews, and extended family members, along with dear friends and cherished churches. All of our lives are richer because of how Shirley Lane lived her life.
A Family Service will be held on Sunday, February 6, 2022, at Shady Grove Baptist Church. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, Lynn. The Reverends' Dan Smith and Wallace Willis will officiate the service. Pallbearers serving: her six grandsons.
