Sarah "Helen" McGlaun Surles died on July 21, 2018 at Kindred Hospice in Columbus, Georgia.  She was born on July 27, 1927 in Muscogee County (Midland) Georgia to the late Prather A. McGlaun and Julia Mary Waller McGlaun.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 52 years, Woodrow "Woody" Surles and her brother, Thomas McGlaun.

Helen and Woody were married on May 6, 1948.  She attended Business College in Atlanta, Georgia.  She was a faithful member of Palm Springs Baptist Church, West Palm Beach, Florida for many years.  Upon returning to Richland in the early 1980's she became a member of Richland Baptist Church.  Helen was a Pharmacy Tech while living in Florida.

Helen will be missed by all her family and many friends who dearly loved her sweet, gentle, loving personality.

She was a devoted wife and mother to her three surviving daughters and their spouses: Pam and Richard Vann, Nita S. Brown, Bobbie Surles; six grandchildren, Troy and Cindy Harris, Kevin and Bridgett Vann, Amanda and Trey Wilkins, Stephanie and Shad Law, Richie and Heather Vann, Haley and Greg Fritz; eight great grandchildren; her faithful dog, Scooter; one brother, Gerald McGlaun; and two sisters, Sybil Fussell, Faye Wiseman.

A Visitation Service with the family will be held on July 24 2018, Tuesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Baldwin Funeral Home in Richland, Georgia.

Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday morning, July 25th, at 11:00 AM, at Richland Baptist Church.  Mike McGlaun will officiate the services with Helen Adams playing the piano.  Interment will be at Harmony Cemetery immediately after the church service.

Pallbearers:   Kevin Vann, Richie Vann, Stan Fussell, Jason Wiseman, Shad Law, Sam Ayers
