Sara Margaret Dunaway Allmon, 77, passed away on January 12, 2024, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia. She was born on March 23, 1946, in Cuthbert, Georgia, to the late Harvey Dunaway and Margaret Gallman Dunaway.
Margaret was preceded in death by both of her parents, her twin brothers, David Dunaway and Danny Dunaway, brother-in-law, Page Tharp, and sister-in-law Mary Allmon.
She is survived by her husband, Russell Allmon of Americus, Georgia, her daughter, Sunshine Popwell of Naples, Florida, her son Nicholas Kuhlman of Lumpkin, Georgia, brother, Harvey Dunaway, Jr. of Columbus, Georgia, sister, Patricia Tharp of Leesburg, Georgia, brother-in-law, Alan Allmon of Americus, Georgia, sister-in-law, Sandra Dunaway of Lumpkin, Georgia, two grandchildren, Allison Popwell of Seattle, Washington, Bo Popwell of Thomasville, Georgia, and several nieces and nephews.
Margaret was a member of the Lumpkin Baptist Church and a past Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher. Margaret loved teaching and tutoring children. She knew how important a good education would benefit her classes. After teaching for 30 years, she retired from the Stewart County School System.
Any one that knew Margaret understood her love for working in her yard, her flowers, and decorating for all of her favorite holidays. People would drive over to her home to view her Christmas decorations! When planning a vacation, she loved to go any place from the beach to the mountains. The one thing she loved most in this world was her family, especially her two grandchildren, Allison and Bo.
A Visitation Service will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024, from 5:00 to 6:00 pm at Baldwin Funeral Home in Richland, Georgia, 50 Overby Dr.
A Church Service will be held on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at 2:00 pm at the Lumpkin Baptist Church with the Reverend Raymond Smith officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Americus, Georgia.
In Lieu of Flowers, donations may be mailed in Margaret's memory to the Stewart Webster Cancer Fund, 6381 Hamilton St., Preston, Ga 31824
