Roberta Lynn
Chandler
January 27, 1962 – February 18, 2025
Roberta Lynn Chandler passed away on Tuesday, February 18, in Richland, Georgia. Lynn was born to Henry and Mary Chandler in Fort Dix, New Jersey on January 27, 1962. Lynn was a loving daughter, sister, and beloved friend. She never met a stranger. She enjoyed quilting, cross-stitching, sewing, traveling, photography, gardening, and doing home improvement projects. As a child, she loved to sing. Her brother remembers her picking flowers and singing to them. She loved music, movies, and playing games with friends.
Lynn thrived when she was taking care of people. Her role as a caregiver for her family was her joy in life. Her family felt blessed to have her take care of them. From taking them to doctor appointments, making them healthy tasty meals, and making sure all their physical and mental needs were met.
Her family remembers her as strong-willed, very organized, independent, a truly amazing person, and the strongest person they knew. She was always willing to share her knowledge and spend time teaching people new things, from photography to cross-stitching to home improvement, there wasn't much she couldn't do.
Lynn was a great storyteller, never to be deceptive, always to be creative and funny. She had one story many people had heard about how a bear put a dent in the back of her SUV. Everyone who has ever heard her spin that tale believed it until she cracked that little smile and admitted she backed up into a rock at a campsite.
Lynn graduated from Troy State University in 1982 with a degree in Computer Science and a minor in Marine Biology. She joined EDS as a Systems Engineer and became a valued employee and a beloved friend to many from her days living in Plano, TX and Poulsbo, WA.
Teresa Allen a lifelong friend from Dallas had this to say about Lynn: "Lynn never met a stranger. She could strike up a conversation and befriend anyone she encountered; I envied and marveled at how she could talk to anyone.
When I moved to Plano to work on my Phase 3 of EDS employment. I met Lynn when she approached and introduced herself at a local Hancock's fabric store. That is when I found out we both had a mutual Quilting hobby. This evolved into hundreds of evenings with various friends doing crafting projects of all kinds. We called them S & B (which stood for Stitch and Bitch). Lynn moved to Washington State, which caused the evenings to occur less frequently but with more meaning and more friends. Lynn would always be there to help anyone who needed help. She helped me design the quilt that I sleep under every night. I joked that I was having an affair against my husband when I would travel to Lynn's and spend all night with "Bernina" her sewing machine. We shopped, camped and vacationed together. It was always amazing and fun even when it was working on home improvements.
Lynn is traveling on a new adventure. With her mom by her side and no one there is a stranger!"
Sandi Walsh a lifelong friend from Poulsbo shared this: Lynn was thoughtful, loving, funny, creative, and smart! We started working together for EDS in the early 1990s on a project for McCaw Cellular when Lynn joined the Poulsbo office. Lynn had a way of looking for solutions differently than me, which made us a good team, and we became fast friends. She became part of my family, participating in family events and hiring my sons to do odd jobs for her. One time, when she got stuck in the snow driving home from work, she called for help. Skip and I went to the rescue! When we got to her house, she thanked us and said 'I have Sandi … and Sandi has Skip … and Skip is brave!' It's a phrase that we've said, with a chuckle, over many years.
We both loved to garden so we spent many hours discussing ideas, swapping plants, and digging in the dirt together. Lynn was also fearless when it came to projects around the house. She had a set of power tools that were the envy of many men. And, better yet, she knew how to use them! She had no problem with ripping up floors or tearing into walls. I was in Awe! Her challenge was picking paint colors, which meant that her walls were splotched with a variety of colors for months! In the end, her projects always turned out beautiful.
Lynn loved to cross stitch and do a variety of other crafting. She also created the most beautiful quilts. She had an eye for patterns and fabrics that would complement each other. I'm lucky to have a few of those treasured creations in my home.
Lynn also loved to travel. Once, when she was leaving on a trip she stayed at my house the night before. She slept on our couch, and then left the next morning. Later that day we noticed that our wall clock was missing. We searched high and low, and finally found it stuffed under the cushions of the love seat. Apparently, it was making too much noise for her to sleep, so she buried it …. And forgot to tell us!
Lynn had a few quirks when we dined out. She had to have the seat with her back against the wall. The iced tea had better be fresh brewed – nothing artificial. And, when it was time to place her order, she'd change her mind at least 2-3 times while the server was trying to write the order. It was always fun to watch! Lynn was also a great cook. A couple of my favorites were her Chicken with Dumplings and Mulligatawny soup.
Lynn had a big heart where she held her family and friends. She was devoted to those she loved.
Rest in Peace my friend, Love, Sandi"
Lynn is survived by her brothers, Jack Chandler and Thomas Chandler, her sister Jean Chatham, and her nephew David Chatham. Lynn will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Her kindness, sense of humor, and loving nature brightened the lives of all who had the privilege to know her. In place of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation or the American Cancer Association.
