Richard Lee Carpenter, 67, of Preston, Georgia, (formerly of Valdosta, Georgia) died on June 10, 2015, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia. He was born on June 6, 1948, in Hahira, Lowndes County Georgia, to the late Lee C. Carpenter and Lois Lewis Carpenter.

Richard is preceded in death by both of his parents.

Richard was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He worked as a brick mason for his company, Carpenter Masonry in Valdosta, Georgia. In 2007, Richard and his family moved from Valdosta to Preston, Georgia.

Richard's pride and joy was his children and his grandchildren. Spending time with his family was always a priority to him. He enjoyed all outdoor activities and could build anything with his hands. He and his family attended Macedonia Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Brazier Carpenter, his son, Richie Lee (Melissa) Carpenter of Prattville, Alabama and his daughter, Monica Marie (Ben) Singleton of Buena Vista, Georgia, a number of brothers and sisters, and four grandchildren, Ashley Carpenter, Brittany Carpenter, Brazier Carpenter, Jade Shropshire.

A Visitation Service will be held on Friday, June 12, 2015, from 6:00 – 7:30 PM, at Baldwin Funeral Home, Richland, Georgia.

A Graveside Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2015, at 11:00 AM, at Harmony Cemetery in Richland, Georgia. The Reverend Robert Orr conducted the service.

Pallbearers serving: Greg Fender, Byron Thornton, Brent Lehman, Michael Sims

In lieu of flowers: Donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, in care of Baldwin Funeral Home.
