Obituary

Mildred Dunaway Riles, 82, died on January 30, 2018, at Brookdale Columbus under the care of Preferred Care Hospice, in Columbus, Georgia.

She was born on October 20, 1935, in Stewart County Georgia, to the late Walter Oben Dunaway and Leah Trammell Dunaway.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe Riles; a sister, Mary Hazel Dunaway Timms; and a brother, Walter Raymond Dunaway.

She is survived by her daughter, Mildred Riles (Larry) Deal of Buena Vista, Georgia; two sons, Eddie (Elizabeth) Riles of Lumpkin, Bob (Lori) Riles of Preston, Georgia; three grandchildren, Leah Deal (Allen) Rowland of Buena Vista, Georgia, Joey (Crosby) Riles of Athens, Georgia, Jesse (Makayla) Riles of Athens, Georgia; two great-grandchildren, Andalei Grace Rowland, Austin Joseph Rowland; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Millie enjoyed watching her sons and daughter grow and succeed in school, and then start their own families. Millie was a dedicated member to her church, Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. When Wesley Chapel merged with Lumpkin United Methodist Church, Millie moved on over to Lumpkin Methodist. Millie had been attending LUMC on the Sunday's that Wesley Chapel did not meet so she fell right in place to continue serving in the church. Millie, Sue Harrison and Dot Richardson had their regular spots on the pew of the back row. Millie had a great time talking on the telephone to her family and friends, finding who did what and how everyone was doing. Millie loved to go shoe and clothes shopping and had three full closets to prove she was a great bargain finder.

Millie was retired from the USDA, Agricultural Conservation and Stabilization Service in Lumpkin, Georgia, (ASCS). Millie enjoyed working crossword puzzles in her spare time. She and her husband Joe, in their younger days, would go to dances and have a great time. It was well known that Joe was an excellent dancer, and all the ladies wanted a turn to dance with him.

A Graveside Service for Millie will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at 3:00 PM, at Wesley Chapel Cemetery, outside of Lumpkin, Georgia. The family will visit with family and friends after the service.

The Reverend Lowell Layman will conduct the service.
