Mary Helen Twitchell Flatt, 90, died on Wednesday, August 5, at Columbus Hospice House, Columbus, Georgia. She was born on December 28, 1924 in Greenbush, Maine to the late Harry Hartman Twitchell and Blanche Smart Twitchell.

Mary is preceded in death by both her parents, her husband, Milton Donald Flatt, her daughter, Jean Ann Flatt; and her granddaughter, Lisa Nelson.

Survivors include four sons, Larry (Alice) Flatt, Richard (Joy) Flatt, Curtis Flatt, Warren (Laura) Flatt; two daughters, Carolyn (Peter) Polk, Kathy (Ronnie) Jackson; two sisters, Rita Willis, Jean Johnston; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorial Service: Saturday, August 8, 2015, at 3:00 PM, at Baldwin Funeral Home Chapel, 50 Overby Dr., Richland, Georgia 31825. The Reverend Larry Ready conducted the service. Martha Jordan sang, Lilly of the Valley.

Visitation with the family will be held at Warren Flatt's home after the Memorial Service, 1667 Hitchitee Creek Rd., Louvale, GA.
There was a private burial at the Ft. Benning Main Post Cemetery, Ft. Benning, Georgia.

Mary and Donald (Milton) moved to this area when he was transferred to Ft. Benning, 49 years ago. Mary loved her country and served in the United States Army as a Surgical Tech 5 before her marriage.

Mrs. Mary was a member of Bland Baptist Church in Charles, Georgia. She loved flowers and volunteered at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia. Wherever they were stationed, her yard was loving planted with flowers. One of her favorite past times was making items that were with crocheted. Mary loved her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
