She was born on August 11, 1916, in Stewart County, Georgia, to the late Matthew Franklin Dunaway and Camilla Rutledge Dunaway.
Evelyn is preceded in death by both of her parents; her husband, Walter Benjamin (W.B.) Law; five brothers; four sisters; and a great granddaughter, Meg Greene.
She is survived by her two daughters, Elaine Law (Frankie) Shirling of Lumpkin, Georgia and Mary Jane Law Perry of Lumpkin, Georgia; five grandchildren, Carmen Reynolds, Amy (Ken) Greene, Kate Shirling, Kendal Perry, Benjamin Perry; eight great-grandchildren, Camille Reynolds, Josie Reynolds, Rebecca Kate Greene, Logan Reynolds, Riley Greene, Tess Reynolds, Mateo Delafuente; one great-great grandchild, Owen Powell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
As a young woman, Evelyn worked as an operator at the telephone company in Lumpkin. The switchboard operators connected calls by inserting a pair of phone plugs into the appropriate jacks. Evelyn worked at a gun plant in Salt Lake City, Utah during World War II, while Mr. W.B. was in service. The Remington plants belonged to the government; however, they were operated by Remington under fixed-fee contracts.
Evelyn was a member of the Lumpkin First Baptist Church. She and Mr. W. B. owned and operated the Law's Market in Lumpkin for many, many years. She was like a mother to many young people in Lumpkin, they would come and visit her at the grocery store. She loved her family and spending time visiting friends and family on her front porch.
