Mary Lem Harmon Ammons, age 101, passed away on August 13, 2024, at her home. She was born on April 19, 1923, in Stewart County, Georgia, to the late William Lemmie Harmon and to the late Emma Barge Harmon.

She was preceded in death by both of her parents, her husband of 75 years, Troy T. Ammons, Jr., her brother, Bill Harmon, her sister, Frances Burt, son-in-law, Herman Hendricks and grandson, Rich Klusmann.

She is survived by her three children, Pamela Ammons Hendricks, Ellen Ammons (Chuck) Klusmann, Troy "Tim" Ammons, III; grandchildren, Michael Hendricks (Marsha), Michele Lampton (Jeff), Katey Klusmann, Diana Speedy, Christy Austin; great grandchildren, Micah McCasland (John Michael), Jake Lampton (Abby), Brady Lampton, Emma Hendricks, Walker Hendricks, Livia Klusmann, Avery Klusmann, Jesse Speedy (Jessica), Aaron Speedy, Julia Speedy, Meredith Speedy, Brice Austin, Pierce Austin, Reid Austin, Kay Lynn Austin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Lumpkin, Georgia, until her health failed. During the years she lived in Pensacola, Florida, she was a member of East Hill Baptist Church. There she taught Sunbeams and Pre-School Sunday School. She also participated in UMW. In Lumpkin she was involved in UMW and served as president of that group. She was an encouragement to all.

Mary was well-known for her cooking skills. Many friends and relatives enjoyed her delicious meals over the years. At Christmas she made special treats for all to enjoy. She also delivered treats to shut-ins.

Mary enjoyed all crafts but particularly sewing and needlework. She made clothes and other special items like quilts, rugs, embroidery items and crochet pieces for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Everything. Everything she made was treasured.

Mary is the real-life example of the virtuous woman in Proverbs 31. She was trustworthy, productive, strong and wise. As Proverbs 31:29-30 states, "Many wives have done virtuously, but you surpass them all. Charm is deceitful, and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised."

Visitation will be held on Friday evening, August 16, 2024 from 6:00 to 7:00 PM, at Baldwin Funeral Home in Richland, Georgia.

A Church Service will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the Lumpkin First Baptist Church. The service will be led by the Reverand Raymond Smith. Mary will be laid to rest next to Troy, in a private service at Sardis Cemetery.
