Lloyd Henry Kimmel, 92, passed away February 20, 2014 at Baptist Manor Retirement Center, Palmetto, GA.  He was born July 13, 1921 in rural Salina County, Illinois to Lloyd and Cornelia Kimmel.

Lloyd graduated from Boys High in Atlanta, GA, in 1937, earned a BA from Newberry College, MA in Clinical Psychology from Emory University, and a PhD from Georgia State.

He joined the US Army during WWII and served in the artillery in the South Pacific, earning a Bronze Star and Purple Heart in action in Luzon.  He was in the occupying forces on the Island of Japan at the end of the war.  He was retired from the Army Reserve as full Colonel.

Lloyd was a teacher, coach, and administrator in the Atlanta Public School System, George Walton Academy, Arlington Schools, and Valdosta State.  He was a life-long church member, Deacon, soloist, Sunday School teacher, and part-time pastor.

He was married to Audrey Croxton Kimmel on July 2, 1940 until her death on November 20, 2010.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Margaret Joan Smith.

Survived include two daughters, Betty Jane Edwards, Ocala, FL, Patricia Jean Lambert, Peachtree City, GA, and one son, Kim Kimmel (Kay) Lumpkin, GA, nine grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be at Andersonville National Cemetery, Andersonville, GA, February 24, 2014, at 2:00 PM, Reverend Wayne Williams officiating.
