Obituary

Leona "Burrelle" Key White, 91, passed away on April 12, 2020, at  Magnolia Manor West  in Columbus, Georgia.  A family Graveside Service was held at Enterprise Baptist Church Cemetery in Richland, Georgia, Beloved Pastor Tim Cadenhead officiated.

Burrelle was born on September 13, 1928, in Webster County Georgia, the only daughter of the late Huel Franklin and Catherine Izelle Guirley Key.  She graduated from Webster County High School in 1945, then moved to Columbus, Georgia, where she went to work for Civil Service at Fort Benning, Georgia.

There, she met and later married the love of her life, Henry Thomas White.  They were married for over 53 years until Henry's death in 2000.  Together, they raised four "army brats" while Burrelle became a stay-at-home mom.  She later returned to work at Fort Benning's Infantry Board for twenty years, earning many commendations for exemplary performance.

Burrelle was a very friendly person with an endearing sense of humor.  She loved all animals and loved country living.  After losing her husband, Burrelle returned "home" to the country in Webster County to live.  She was a member of Enterprise Baptist Church and the Women's Club of Preston.

Other than her parents and husband, Burrelle was preceded in death by her three brothers, Calvin F. Key, Durward M. Key, Gerald G. Key, her daughter, Kathryn Jerianna "Jeri" White, her son, Jonathan Calvin White and her special cousin, Joseph Moulton.

A beloved mother and grandmother, Burrelle leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Joyce (Craig) Griffin of Sweetwater, Tennessee, Jan (Mark) Bovaird of Columbus, Georgia; grandchildren, Ivy Griffin (Matt Czarnowski) of Sacramento, California, CJ Griffin of Knoxville, Tennessee, Ryan (Nicole) White of Webster County Georgia and Tara (Drew) Platta of Columbus, Georgia, Zach (Lacey) Bovaird of Phenix City, Alabama, and Blake Bovaird of Orlando, Florida; two great-grandchildren, Nathan Platta and Brooklyn Bovaird; special cousins, Dianne Key Morgan of Buena Vista, Georgia, and Linda Moulton Sampson of North Carolina, numerous nieces and nephews and many loving friends.

The family wishes to express special thanks and gratitude to Dora Evans of Lumpkin, Georgia, who was her faithful and loving caregiver for two years, and many thanks to the members to the members of Enterprise Baptist Church for their love and support, and special thanks to the kind people at Magnolia Manor West for their care the last several years of Burrelle's life.
