Obituary

Joseph Harold Ammons, 86, died Monday, April 10, 2017, at Columbus Hospice in Columbus, Georgia, with his family at his side.
Joseph was born on May 7, 1930 in Randolph County Georgia, to the late Troy Ammons, Sr. and Lucy Mason Ammons.

He is preceded in death by both of his parents, his wife, Claudia Edge Ammons, who passed away on August 27, 2013, and his brother, George Frank Ammons.

Joseph served in the United States Air Force at an early age. Along with his brother, George, Joseph built Ammons Auto Parts and Ammons Garage, a thriving business for 58 years. He worked there until his retirement in 2015 at age 85. "I have people depending on me," was his favorite response when asked why he did not retire.

Some of his pastimes were hunting and tending cattle, but his preferred, by far, was fishing. Joseph enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was an excellent carpenter and a mechanical wizard. He was a real "Mr. Fixit." Most recently he enjoyed building or repairing clocks. An unfinished project he had begun was building a floating dock so he could fish even if the pond water level was down.

He was a member of Lumpkin First Baptist Church and also attended his boyhood church, Sardis Methodist Church.

He is survived by his son, Joseph "Joey" H. (Sherry) Ammons of Lumpkin, Georgia and his daughter, Debbie (H. L., Jr.) Moore of Preston, Georgia; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Donnie) Weeks, Mark (Heather) Ammons, Brent (Christina) Moore, Rusty (Renee) Moore, Jimbo (Renee) Moore; and eight great-grandchildren, Andrew Joseph Ammons, Wilson Oliver Weeks, Claudia Grace Weeks, Everett Homer Moore, James Davis Moore, Laine Moore Lamborne, James Larry Moore, Jr., Taylor Adraine Moore; and two brothers, Troy (Mary) Ammons, Jr, and Lloyd Ammons.

A Visitation Service will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at Baldwin Funeral Home in Richland, Georgia.

A Graveside Service will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, April 13, 2017, at Sardis Cemetery, Lumpkin, Georgia. The Reverends' Wayne Williams and Dan Smith will conduct the service.
