Mr. John Thomas Patterson, II, age 81, departed this life on September 25, 2013, at Columbus Hospice House.  The funeral will be graveside at Northside Cemetery in Lumpkin, GA, on October 1, 2013 at 11:00 AM, followed by a luncheon in Mr. Patterson's memory.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Olin Wimberly Patterson, Sr. and Frances Porter Patterson, his brother Olin W. Patterson, Jr., and his sister, Mary Patterson Binns.   Survivors who will cherish his memory are: his wife, Barbara Fagan Patterson; son, Michael (Susan) Patterson; daughter, Laurie (Robb) Patterson-Giles; grandson, Brenden Giles; granddaughter, Erin Patterson; sister-in-law Winifred Patterson; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Patterson was born on November 18, 1931, in Cuthbert, GA, at Patterson Hospital to the late Olin Patterson and the late Frances Porter Patterson.  He was educated in Lumpkin; also Gordon Military School, Darlington and North Georgia Military College.  He served honorably as an Army Captain during the Korean Conflict.

He was first married to Laura Ann Smith of Memphis, TN, and from this union, three children were born, John, Michael and Laurie.

His engaging and gregarious nature led him into sales, particularly the field of real estate sales and land development.  Licensed in three states, he was a Broker for ERA Alpha Realty Group in Fort Meyers, FL, along with his partner Barbara Fagan Patterson, whom he married.

An avid outdoorsman, he spent much of his time on the dove fields and "calling" wild turkeys.   He also enjoyed fishing and boating in both fresh and salt water, and his stories are legend.

Through the years, Mr. Patterson volunteered his time to the March of Dimes, Goodwill Industries, Pop Warner, Boys Clubs, Columbus Museum of Art and Junior Achievement.   He was a member of the Fort Meyers, FL, Rotary Club.  His membership in the Columbus Country Club spanned fifty years, and he was an early and faithful member of the Chattahoochee River Club.  He enjoyed and participated in the activities of the Sons of the American Revolution, Coweta Chapter, until his health failed.

In 1997, he retired to his home of choice, "At Last" on Lake Harding, AL., with his wife Barbara, and his devoted Lab, Star.

Flowers would be appreciated or donations may be made in Mr. Patterson's memory to Columbus Hospice House or the Northside Cemetery Fund, PO Box 758, Lumpkin, GA 31815.
