John Guy Cherry, 90, passed away on December 6, 2018, at Diversicare of Oxford in Oxford, Alabama. John Guy was born on May 26, 1928 in Lumpkin, Georgia, to the late Hollis H. Cherry and Carmen Lyons Cherry.

John Guy was married to the late Margaret Jones Cherry. Margaret died when their daughters were very young, so John Guy had to two young daughters to raise.

He was a gifted mechanic and could work on anything mechanical.  He had worked at Fort Brothers Chevrolet Dealership in Lumpkin, Georgia; then when Gilbert Maddox became the owner, John Guy continued to work at the dealership.  He later moved to Gordon White Chevrolet Dealership in Cuthbert, Georgia. By the time of his retirement, he had worked at several other Chevrolet dealerships.

John Guy attended school in Lumpkin, Georgia. Later he moved to be closer to his daughters.

He is preceded in death by both of his parents, his wife, Margaret; his five brothers, Hollis Cherry Jr., Weyman Cherry, Witt Cherry, Dexter Cherry, Erskin Cherry; and his sister, Faye Morrrison.

Survivors include his two daughters, Marsha Ann Cherry and Tammy Lynn Cherry Stone; five grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

A Visitation Service with his family will be held on Saturday afternoon, December 8, 2018 from 5:00 to 6:00 pm, at Baldwin Funeral Home in Richland, Georgia.

A Graveside Service will be held on Sunday afternoon, December 9, 2018, at 4:00 pm, at Shady Grove Baptist Cemetery in Lumpkin, Georgia.
