Obituary

Joe Bolivar Peek, Sr., 90, passed away in the comfort of his home in Louvale, Georgia, on April 14, 2020.

A Service of Remembrance was held on Friday, April 17, 2020 (graveside) at 3:00 p.m., with the Reverend Robert Orr and Nicholas Page conducting the service.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents; Bolivar Peek and Lucille Cherry Peek; two brothers, Woodson and Ellis Peek; also four sons, Bob (Janice) Peek, Lynn (Kathy) Peek, Phil and Don Peek all of Louvale, Georgia; and one great grandchild, Cole Hillard.

Mr. Joe is survived by his wife of  71 years, Betty Perry Peek of Louvale, Georgia; one daughter, Betty Jo Smith (Gordan) of Louvale, Georgia.  Grandchildren include, Kim Peek Tyler, Mitzi Peek Lynch (Chad), Sallie Peek Long (Chad), Casey Smith Rowan (Michael).  Great- grandchildren include, Chase Long, Bentley Long, Kassidy Kennedy (Benji Nobles), Ty and Daylin Rowan, and Trent Tyler.  Great-great-grandchildren include Jordan, Jaxson and Drake Long and Nolyn Nobles, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Joe's work journey began when he was only 15 years old.  He began assisting his aunt and uncle (Claudia and Whit Brightwell) in the Louvale grocery business.  He would later become the owner of the business known as Peek's Grocery, Louvale, Georgia (1949).  Joe and his wife Betty ran the "Mom and Pop" business for 56 years, seven days a week.

Joe also served as a member of the Stewart County School Board.  His other occupations included the Timber business operations for approximately 16 years.  He was Manager of the Thomas Sewell Wildlife Management Area, Stewart County, Georgia.  Joe played a major role in the stocking of the Texas Whitetail deer brought into our area in 1951.   A resource that has since had a significant economic impact on our county and the surrounding counties.

Joe was a family man and loved helping all of his family and wonderful friends.  Nothing pleased him more than to help others.  For all that knew and loved him, we will miss him dearly, but will always cherish each and every story he shared and the special memories he left us to carry in our hearts.
