Joan Swords Giles, 88, passed away on November 30, 2023, at Four County Health and Rehab, Richland, Georgia.  She was born on August 12, 1935, in Early County Georgia, to the late Haniel Swords and Eula Tindol Swords.

Joan was preceded in death by both of her parents, her husband, Johnny Giles, her youngest daughter, Carol Pearman, her brother, Wyatt Hoyt Swords, and sister-in-law, Mary Lou Miller Swords.

She is survived by one daughter, Anita Giles Usher of Richland, Georgia; and five grandchildren, Chip Usher (Julie), Talin Usher (Jennifer), Laura Pearman Fernwalt (Jason), Greg Pearman (Tracey), James Pearman (Melanie), two sons-in-laws, Travis Usher, Randy Pearman (Melody), ten great grandchildren: Perry Usher, Gracie Anne Usher, Kayla Usher, Kale Usher, Dillon Pearman, Dawson Pearman, Adahbelle Pearman, Daxton Pearman, Landon Pearman, Bentley Pearman, and many nieces and nephews including DeWana Lowe (Neil) and Gary Swords.

Joan was a homemaker, bank teller, and Pastor's wife.  She loved plants and had such a green thumb that it was joked that she could root a broom handle!

Joan loved Jesus, her Savior, her church, her friends, family and her Pastor.  She will greatly be missed by all who knew and loved her.

A Visitation will be held on December 5, 2023, at 10:00 AM, at Lumpkin Baptist Church, in Lumpkin, Georgia.

A Church Service will be held on December 5, 2023, at 11:00 AM, at Lumpkin Baptist Church with the Reverend's Raymond Smith and Terry Harrell officiating.  Burial will be at the Arlington Cemetery, in Arlington, Georgia for the family and close friends.
