Obituary

James O. Norton, 93, of Preston, Georgia, passed away on December 9, 2014, at Four County Health and Rehab in Richland, Georgia. He was born on November 17, 1921, in Brundidge, Alabama to the late William Henry Norton and Lonnie Othela Mathgon.

James is preceded in death by both of his parents and a daughter, Janice Burrell.

During World War II James served in the Army in the position of a Staff Sergeant. He was later employed with Sullivan Lumber Company in Preston, Georgia. James lived in Webster County Georgia for 58 years and was a member of the Preston Baptist Church.
As a hobby, James learned how to make knives. He also loved working with wood and making windmills.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Senn Norton; a son, Murray (Betty Ann) Norton of Adele, Georgia; a brother, Bobby Norton of Phenix City, Alabama; seven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great grandchildren.

A Visitation Service was held on Friday morning, December 12, 2014, from 9:30 to 10:30 am. A Funeral Service was held following the Visitation at 11:00 am. Burial was in the Preston City Cemetery in Preston, Georgia. The Reverend Raymond Smith conducted the service. Allen Burrell sang two hymns, "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace".
