James Willard
Lynch
August 15, 1924 – May 16, 2020
James Willard Lynch, 95, died on May 16, 2020, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia. He was born August 15, 1924 in Stewart County Georgia, to the late Arthur Stephens Lynch and Lollie Richardson Lynch.
JW grew up in Stewart County and attended Stewart County High School. He served his country in the United States Army Airborne during World War II. After being discharged from the Army, he worked for United Airlines. He lived in New Jersey and Pennsylvania during this time.
One of his favorite vacations was spending one to two weeks in Stewart County helping harvest peanuts with his cousin, Royce Lynch, alongside his brothers, Arthur Lynch, Junior and Tip Lynch.
In 2003, JW moved back to Georgia and soon married Marion Lynch. Though he was always "Uncle Jay" he immediately became a father figure for Greg, Phillip and Jeffrey as well a grandfather figure to Justin and Luke.
He enjoyed keeping busy working around the house, in his tool shed and in his garden. His favorite meal was breakfast, especially smoked sausage, a fried egg, a slice of cheese toast, a slice of buttered toast, smothered in jelly, jam syrup or preserves – pretty much any sweet condiment and a cup or two of coffee.
JW enjoyed silly jokes. He would ask, "How do you feel?" He would hold up his hand, flex his fingers and say, "I feel with my fingers!" Whenever someone left the room he would often say, "Don't get lost. If you do, call and I'll send someone to find you."
JW is preceded in death by: his two brothers, Arthur Lynch, Jr and George "Tip" Lynch; and his two sisters, Emily Frith and Sara Law.
Survivors include his wife, Marion Lynch; stepsons, Greg (Cathy) Lynch of Lumpkin Georgia, Phillip Lynch of Cordele, Georgia and Jeffrey (Linda) Lynch of Lumpkin, Georgia; step-grandchildren: Justin Lynch, Luke Lynch, Brett Miller of Louvale, Georgia, Carman (Russ) Henson of Valley, Alabama, Jesse (Angie) Miller of Americus, Georgia; step-great granddaughter, Bayla Henson; step-great grandson, Graham Miller; special granddaughter, Emily Bracewell, sisters-in-law: Shirley Lane and Ellen Sumner; and several nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2020, at 11:00 AM, at Northside Cemetery in Lumpkin, Georgia. Due to the current health situation, for your comfort you may prefer to wear a face mask. The family will visit with friends after the service.
