James Ivey Lane, 90, of Lumpkin, GA died Monday, August 4, 2014. James was born in Stewart County, GA, February 29, 1924 to the late Mack Jester Lane and Alline Cherry Lane.
James began his adult life by serving his country in World War II. After returning home from the war he farmed in Stewart County all of his life. He grew cotton, peanuts, corn and pine trees. He also worked for the Georgia Forestry Commission as a forest ranger and retired from that position. His generosity and kindness touched many. James loved to be out-of-doors and spent many hours in his later life in his favorite pastime of fishing.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Anne Gilbert Lane; a son, Jimmy Lane; and five brothers. His brothers included Mack Lane, Jr., Ralph Lane, Allen Lane, Marvin Lane, and Lynn Lane. James is survived by his children, Judy Alger (Gregg) of Lumpkin, GA. Lawrence Lane (Kathy) of North Augusta, SC, and Ginger Lane of Acworth, GA. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Jackie Hutwagner (Lori) of Columbus, GA, Eddie Hutwagner (Julie) of Oxford, GA, Anna Bramblett (Jimmy) of St. Paul, Minnesota, Charlotte Barker of North Augusta, SC, Amy Ammons (Phil) of Lumpkin,GA, Eric Ray (Rose) of Gastonia, NC, Andrew Ray of Acworth, GA, Ben Ray of Acworth, GA, and Sarah Harrison of Acworth, GA. He is survived by ten great grandchildren, Cale Edwards of Lumpkin, GA, Clare Edwards of Watkinsville, GA, Tate and Will Hutwagner of Columbus, GA, Morgan and Allie Barker of North Augusta, SC, Dia and Emma Ray of Gastonia, NC, and Mya and Beau Ammons of Lumpkin, GA.
Visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday evening, August 6, 2014, from 6:00 – 7:00 at Baldwin Funeral Home, 50 Charles Overby Dr., in Richland, GA. A Chapel Service will be held Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 10:00 AM, at Baldwin Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Larry Langford officiating. The Chapel Service will be followed by interment at Northside Cemetery in Lumpkin, GA.
