Ida Bruce Merritt, 100, of Richland, passed away at the Four County Health Care and Rehabilitation, Richland, on Wednesday, September 28, 2011.
She was born January 7, 2011, in Stewart County Georgia to the late Samuel Anthony Bruce and Ida Fussell. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Franklin Merritt, Sr. and her two sons, John Franklin Merritt, Jr. and Samuel Anthony Merritt; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Merritt was a long time resident of Richland, GA. "Miss Ida" was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Never at a loss for words, she shared her faith, humor, wisdom and love for life with everyone who knew her. She was an excellent cook, well known for her cakes and "sugar cookies".
She is survived by her daughter, Faye Merritt McGarrah of McDonough, GA; grandchildren, John Franklin (Kim) Merritt, III of FL, Judson Register (Shannon) Merritt of Hahira, GA, Merritt (John) Wofford of McDonough, GA, William M. (Paige) McGarrah, III of McDonough, GA, and Amy (Mark) Walker of McDonough, GA. Miss Ida had eight grandchildren, Aley Merritt, Courtney Merritt, Colby Merritt, Madison McGarrah, Will Wofford, Peyton Wofford, McGarrah Walker and Owen Walker. She had many nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service was held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 1, 2011, at Harmony Cemetery, Richland, GA. The Rev. Robert Orr officiated. A Visitation was held with friends on Friday evening, September 30, 2011, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at Baldwin Funeral Home.
Flowers were accepted along with contributions to the Richland United Methodist Church.
Baldwin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
