Helen Baker Horton, passed away on May 4, 2024, at Piedmont Midtown Hospital in Columbus, Georgia. She was born in Big Stone Gap, Virginia to the late Buford Baker and Ida Katherine Williams Baker.
She is preceded in death by both of her parents and five of her brothers, M. L. Willis, Buford Lee Baker, Roscoe Baker, Dickie Baker, Hubert Baker and her sister, Beth Collins.
Helen is survived by her husband, John Benjamin Horton, her brother, Randy Baker of Smiths, Alabama, two sons, Eddie (Gwen) Stipe of Duffield, Virginia, Benjamin (Kasi) Horton of Lumpkin, Georgia, two daughters, Cindy Stipe (Steve) Kilcrease of Headland, Alabama, Angie Stipe (Mike) Emfinger of Eufaula, Alabama, seven grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Helen moved from Phenix City, Alabama, to Lumpkin, Georgia in 1973. During that time Helen became a beloved member of the community. She loved her family deeply. She truly enjoyed tending to and raising her flowers. Helen would post updated pictures of her flowers on Facebook for her friends to enjoy. Helen was a devoted and faithful member of Shady Grove Baptist Church near Providence Canyon.
Helen was a very talented lady who loved to make floral arrangements from the numerous flowers in her garden. She also enjoyed going on shopping trips. Helen always greeted people with her lovely smile and a twinkle in her eyes!
She was retired from Mallard Frames in Lumpkin, Georgia, where she was the General Manager, Floral Designer.
A Visitation Service will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2024, from 1:00 to 1:45 PM, at Baldwin Funeral Home Chapel, in Richland, Georgia. The Chapel Service will immediately follow at 2:00 PM, in the Chapel. The Reverend Dick Gill will conduct the service. Burial will be at Glencoe Cemetery in Big Stone Gap, Virginia.
In Lieu of Flowers donations are requested in Helen's memory to the John B Amos Breast Center, 1831 5th Ave, Columbus, Georgia 31904.
