Born in Stewart County, Georgia, on February 8, 1936, Ellen was the daughter of Clifford and Florence Lee Jones Wiseman. She graduated from Richland High School in 1954 and later attended the Columbus School of Art, where she nurtured her love for creativity and beauty. Following her studies, she worked at Kirven’s Department Store in Columbus, Georgia as a buyer’s assistant, combining her artistic eye with her natural sense for style and elegance.

On March 31, 1957, she married the love of her life, Gordon Baker Alston. Together they built a beautiful life in Webster County, Georgia, rooted in faith, family, hard work, and enduring love. Their marriage was a shining example of devotion and partnership, and they shared a passion for traveling the world together while always remaining deeply connected to their home and community.

Ellen was a faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School, served faithfully in the WMU, and held leadership roles including director. Her love for the Lord was evident in the way she lived her life and cared for others.

She was also deeply involved in her community. Ellen was an active member of the Weston Women’s Club, serving over the years as president, treasurer, and in many other capacities. She also served several years on the Webster County Library Board. Alongside her husband, she was the dedicated bookkeeper and steady backbone of the family business, G. B. Alston Farms, until her retirement in 2015.

Above all else, Ellen cherished her family. She was a proud and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose greatest joy came from spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love created a legacy that will continue for generations.

Ellen also had a spirit for the Georgia Bulldogs. On Saturdays in the fall, she could almost always be found cheering on her favorite team, enjoying the simple traditions she loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Florence Lee Jones Wiseman; her brothers, Jerry Wiseman and Jimmy Wiseman; and her son-in-law, Alan Adams.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 69 years, Gordon Baker Alston, Sr.; daughter, Leslye Adams Cook (Noel) of Albany; son, Gordon B. Alston, Jr. (Sandy) of Weston; grandchildren, Dr. Kyle Adams (Laine), Thomas Adams (Logan), Dr. Alston “AJ” Adams (Alexis), Kaitlyn Alston Wells (Ben), and Lyndsey Alston Breeden (Alex); and eight treasured great-grandchildren: Alan Adams, Sylvie Adams, Everett Adams, Landon Adams, Baker Adams, Mac Adams, Tucker Adams, and Nellie Breeden.

She is also survived by her brothers, Kenny Wiseman (Susan) of Weston and Clifford “Butch” Wiseman (Mary Sue) of Thompson; sisters-in-law, Earlene Wiseman of Ellaville and Faye Wiseman of Richland; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Ellen Alston leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, dignity, and service. Her gentle spirit, generous heart, steadfast devotion to God, family, and community will be remembered always by those blessed to know and love her.
