Edward Dewey Brooks, 77, died at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia.  He was born on October 25, 1941 in Webster County, Georgia, to the late Lester Dewey Brooks and Martha Eleanor McLeod Brooks.

Dewey is preceded in death by both of his parents, Betty's son, Bill Jones and his wife, Cindy Jones.

He is survived by his wife, Betty W. Brooks, one son, Edward (Mandy) Brooks, five daughters, Teresa (Robby) Freeman of Dawson, Georgia, Lisa (Rex) Icard of Dawson, Georgia, Paige (Ken) Johnson of Leesburg, Georgia, Betsy Brooks, Sandra (Tommy) Evans; 13 grandchildren, Kyle (Joanie) Welch, Terrell (Casey) Jones, Josh (Jami) Welch, Lauren Icard, Keaton (Casey) Icard, Garret (Victoria) Freeman, Hallie (Mac) Lane, Jordan Wells, Hunter Icard, Gable Freeman, Challis Garey, Carlin Garey, Kendall Johnson; seven great grandchildren, Jace Welch, Anna Leigh Welch, Emma Welch, TJ Jones, Kaleb Welch, Klay Welch, Raelyn Icard; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dewey had worked at the Steven Industries (peanut butter), Gold Kist, Brooks General Store, Randall Green Ford, Dawson Ford Motors and Childres Chevrolet.  In each of the places, Dewey was well known and liked.  Dewey had a laugh and smile like no other.  He loved to visit with people and talk.  He always used his hands when he talked, to express his conversations!  He never met a stranger!  They would know him well before they left and he never forgot a conversation.  He loved people equally no matter their status.

Dewey enjoyed eating!  He loved to experience new and different restaurants and foods.  He never met a meal he did not enjoy!  When anyone said lets go eat, Dewey was right behind them.

Visitation Service:  Thursday, May 9, 2019, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM, at Baldwin Funeral Home in Richland, Georgia.

Church Service will be held on Friday, May 10, 2019, at 11 AM, at the Weston Baptist Church in Weston, Georgia.  Interment will be in the family plot in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers:  Georgia Baptist Children's Home OR Weston Baptist Cemetery Fund.
