David Harold Kent, 57, died on Wednesday,  August 29, 2012, at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, Georgia, after suffering a major stroke.

David was born in Columbus Ohio on October 27, 1954 to William Harold Kent and Margaret L  Walker.  He is preceded in death by both of his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Kent, and his four children: one son, Shannon Kent of Columbus, GA; and three daughters, Teri (Dean) Roland of Warm Springs, GA, Jaime (Joey) Holland of Richland, GA, and Melissa Goebel; two sisters, Debbie (Austin) Holley of Blakely, GA and Donna (Ferrell) Childres of Rome, GA.

David had a great love for all nine of his grandchildren:  Haley and Kendall Kent, Tyler, Macie and Karah Brown, Zoë and Ace Holland, Joseph Yuma and Alexis Sizemore.  He had a number of nieces and nephews.

After working for Sumter Electric in Americus Georgia for a total of 27 years, David retired for a brief period.  For the last five years he worked for the Stewart County Georgia Government as the Building Inspector and Water Superintendent.

David had a big heart and loved his family.  He was an Eagle Scout and an avid outdoorsman.

A Memorial Service celebrating David's life was held at the Baldwin Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, September 1, 2012, at 11:00 AM, with the Reverend Robert Orr officiating.  During the service, family and friends shared memories of David's life.  As a remembrance, the family selected Bette Midler's, "Wind beneath my Wings", to honor David.

A visitation with family and friends was held immediately following the service.  David will be greatly missed by not only his family, but by the many friends and work colleagues that he leaves behind.
