Claudia Edge Ammons, 80, of Lumpkin, GA, died Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at Four County Health and Rehab Center in Richland, GA.
Claudia was born January 1, 1933, in Union, GA. She was the daughter of the late Albert Edge and Mamie Rutledge Edge. She was a graduate of Stewart County High School in Lumpkin, GA. Claudia was retired from Ammons Auto Parts in Lumpkin where she kept the books of the business. Claudia is fondly remembered by many people for her love of square dancing. She and Joseph would load up their station wagon with "young people" and take them to square dances throughout Georgia, Florida and the southeastern region. Claudia and Joe loved spending time in the Union area, where they had built a cabin. She had a great love for the outdoors, sharing this with her husband, Joe, children and grandchildren, with the raising of cattle, catfish, chickens and various animals. Claudia was a wonderful cook/baker and over the years enjoyed sharing this talent with her family and friends.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Joseph Ammons, Sr., of Lumpkin, GA; one son, Joseph (Joey) Ammons, Jr., wife Sherry, of Lumpkin, GA and one daughter, Deborah Moore, husband, H. L. Moore, Jr. of Richland, GA. Claudia is also survived by five grandchildren; Mark (Heather) Ammons, Jennifer (Donnie) Weeks, Brent (Christina) Moore, H. L. (Renee) Moore III, James L. (Renee) Moore; and one great grandchild, Andrew Joseph Ammons.
Visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday evening, August 28, 2013, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, at Baldwin Funeral Home in Richland, GA. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 29, at 11:00 AM at Sardis Methodist Church with the Reverends Wayne Williams and Jack Ray officiating. Burial to follow at Sardis Cemetery. Vickie Harville will play the piano for the service and Wanda Singer will sing a special, "How Great Thou Art".
Pallbearers are: Tim Ammons, Larry Westbrook, Wayne Ammons, Rusty Bradshaw, Eddie Sanders, Paul Sanders and Jimmy Babb.
In lieu of flowers: United Hospice of Cordele, 708 16th Ave., E, Cordele, GA. 31015 or favorite charity. Baldwin Funeral Home, 50 Charles Overby Drive, Richland, Ga. is in charge of arrangements.Visits: 0
