Betty Jo Harris Monkus, 70, passed away at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, Georgia, on Sunday, February 6, 2022. She was born on January 19, 1952, in Richland, Georgia to the late Walter Harris and Ruby Cox Harris.
She attended Stewart County High School where she was always a starter on the basketball team. She attended South Georgia Technical College and received her beautician's certificate.
Billy and Betty Jo were married for a little over 44 years. Betty Jo loved spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. Betty Jo was an amazing cook and loved to have the family over to visit and eat together. She enjoyed to travel especially when they went to the Smokey Mountains and visited the casino. Betty Jo had worked at Red's Pizza with her sisters. She enjoyed game shows and old country music. Betty Jo had her beautician's certificate and worked for 40 years styling hair. She would go to nursing homes and fix the patients hair.
Betty Jo is preceded in death by both of her parents.
Survivors include her husband, William "Billy" H. Monkus, two sons, Heath (Christie) Monkus, Keith (Pamela) Monkus; daughter, Amy Monkus; two brothers, Jabo Harris, Rodney Harris; three sisters, Brenda Landreth, Mary Frances Rodgers, Michelle Bradshaw; 11 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A Visitation Service was held on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, from 6:00 to 7:00 PM, at Baldwin Funeral Home in Richland, Georgia.
A Graveside Service was held on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at 2:00 PM, at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Centerpoint, Georgia. The Reverend Morris Monkus officiated the service.
