Bennie Dewitt West, 80, of Preston, Georgia, died on November 5, 2015, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia.

He was born on August 30, 1935, in Sumter County Georgia, to the late Hilton West and Hallie Witt West.

Bennie is preceded in death by both of his parents; one brother, David West and one sister, Abbey McGlaun.

He is survived by his wife, Donna H. West; two daughters, Patti Jo (Jack) Callaway of Preston, Georgia and Tammy West of Plains, Georgia; two step-daughters, Amy (Peter Protho) Blankenship of Centerpoint, Georgia and Mandy (Phillip) Jackson of Leesburg, Georgia; two grandchildren, Ansley Jackson and Averey Blankenship and two granddaughters.

Bennie worked with farmers for most of his life. He handled the peanuts and chemicals that the farmers needed for their crops. He had worked for Webster Farmers in Weston, Georgia, had his own business in Preston, Georgia and also worked with the farmers in Richland, Georgia.

NASCAR was a passion of Bennie's. He enjoyed watching the races and talking about his favorite drivers. He loved to sit on his porch with his favorite glass in his hand and wave at the farm trucks and peanut wagons as they drove by their house.

Bennie was a member of the Mount Olive Methodist Church.

A Visitation with family and friends will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2015, at 2:00 - 2:45 PM, before the Chapel Service at 3:00 PM. The Visitation and Chapel Service will be held at the Baldwin Funeral Home Chapel, Richland, Georgia. The service will be conducted by the Reverends' Raymond Smith and Robert Orr, with music by Neal Futch.
